Upside Foods’ chicken filet product is the first cell-grown meat product to be declared safe for consumption by the FDA
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given its initial blessing for cultivated meat to be sold in the US. The agency announced on 16 November that California-based Upside Foods has shown that its cultured chicken filet product appears is as safe to eat as conventional chicken.
The FDA has evaluated the information submitted by Upside Foods as part of a pre-market consultation for the company’s food made from cultured chicken cells and ‘has no further questions at this time about the firm’s safety conclusion’.
